Wanneer vrienden het podium delen ontstaat er gegarandeerd vuurwerk. Dat bewijzen Shirly Laub (viool), Tony Nys (altviool) en Karel Steylaerts (cello), drie kleppers uit de Belgische klassieke muziekwereld. Samen heten ze TrioFenix en laten ze met een vanzelfsprekendheid, die eigen is aan oude vrienden, hun instrumenten samenvloeien tot een harmonieus geheel. Ze hebben niet enkel het klassieke repertoire in de vingers, maar gaan ook met plezier nieuwe uitdagingen aan, bijvoorbeeld in de vorm van verrassende arrangementen. Onder die noemer valt ook de bewerking van de fameuze Goldbergvariaties van Bach door Dmitry Sitkovetsky. In het collectieve geheugen zijn de variaties onlosmakelijk verbonden met de Canadese pianist Glenn Gould. TrioFenix laat ze echter ook in deze strijktriogedaante helemaal tot hun recht komen.
When friends share the stage, the result is guaranteed to be spectacular. This is demonstrated by Shirly Laub (violin), Tony Nys (viola) and Karel Steylaerts (cello), three leading figures from the Belgian classical music scene. Together they are known as TrioFenix and, with the ease characteristic of old friends, they blend their instruments into a harmonious whole. Not only do they have the classical repertoire at their fingertips, but they also relish taking on new challenges, for example in the form of surprising arrangements. This includes Dmitry Sitkovetsky’s arrangement of Bach’s famous Goldberg Variations. In the collective memory, the variations are inextricably linked with the Canadian pianist Glenn Gould. However, TrioFenix also does full justice to them in this string trio version.
