Met Natalie Lewis en Brian Zeger strijken twee kleppers van het liedfirmament neer in Gent. Lewis, een Amerikaanse mezzo-sopraan, is lid van het ensemble van de Bayerische Staatsoper en staat aan het begin van wat een beloftevolle carrière genoemd mag worden. Later dit seizoen staan er concerten gepland met Zubin Mehta en Kirill Petrenko en soleert ze met onder meer het Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, het London Philharmonic Orchestra en de Wiener Symphoniker.
Brian Zeger wordt alom geprezen als liedbegeleider en is artistic director van het Marcus Vocal Arts department aan Juilliard.
De Amerikaanse achtergrond van beide uitvoerders wordt duidelijk in de tweede helft van het concert, met enkele spirituals en werk van Price. In de eerste helft ligt de nadruk dan weer op de Europese romantiek, met Brahms, Wagner en Mahler.
With Natalie Lewis and Brian Zeger, two giants of the vocal world are coming to Ghent. Lewis, an American mezzo-soprano, is a member of the ensemble at the Bavarian State Opera and is at the start of what can be described as a promising career.
