In June, 2017, together with Dutch filmmaker Lars Konings, the St. George Quintet travelled to the Czech Republic, in search of the roots of two musical greats, Moravian Leoš Janáček and Bohemian Antonín Dvořák. In Brno, the quintet boarded the famous Bohemia Express train. They experienced traditional folk festivals en route and visited the house where Dvořák was born, ending in Prague, the capital. Their travels inspired a total performance, in which film and music by both composers meld together into a highly evocative whole. The St. George Quintet is an international string ensemble whose name refers to George Onslow, the so-called French Beethoven, who wrote no fewer than 34 quintets for this remarkable combination.
