Tijdens deze projectweek slaan de studenten zang en instrument van de afdeling klassieke muziek de handen in elkaar met hun collega’s van andere opleidingen. Samen maken ze hun eigen versie van Rameau’s opera Pigmalion. Pigmalion, de beeldhouwer uit de Griekse mythologie die verliefd werd op het standbeeld dat hij zelf uit marmer kapte, is in de muziek- en literatuurgeschiedenis wel vaker een bron van inspiratie gebleken, maar de bekendste versie is misschien wel die van de musical My Fair Lady. Rameau schreef zijn eenakter zo’n tweehonderd jaar eerder.
Of de studenten deze week net als Pigmalion verliefd worden op hun eigen creatie ontdekt u tijdens een van de voorstellingen op zaterdag en zondag. De muzikale leiding ligt in handen van dirigent Bart Naessens. De regie komt dan weer uit de creatieve koker van Marijke Pinoy.
During this project week, singing and instrumental students from the classical music department collaborate with their peers from other programmes. Together, they will create their own version of Rameau’s opera Pigmalion. The story of Pigmalion, the sculptor from Greek mythology who fell in love with the marble statue he carved, has often been a source of inspiration in music and literature, perhaps most famously in the musical My Fair Lady. Rameau wrote his one-act opera some two hundred years earlier.
You can discover whether the students will fall in love with their own creation this week, just like Pigmalion, during one of the performances on Saturday and Sunday. Conductor Bart Naessens is in charge of the musical direction. Marijke Pinoy is responsible for the direction.
