Met The Necks strijkt een van de meest eigenzinnige bands van de zuidelijke hemisfeer neer in Gent. De Australische groep werkt al achttien albums lang aan haar unieke sound. Lange, misleidend simpele nummers waren altijd al hun handelsmerk, maar op hun nieuwste album lijken Chris Abrahams (piano), Tony Buck (drums en Lloyd Swanton (bas) de tijd helemaal buitenspel te zetten. De bezwerende sfeer die ze oproepen maakt gewicht- en tijdloos.
Zet daar het Brusselse trio Going (João Lobo, Giovanni Di Domenico en Pak Yan Lau) en de Japanse drummer Tatsuhisa Yamamoto bij en u krijgt een cocktail waar uw hoofd de volgende morgen nog van tolt. Het gelegenheidskwartet met dubbele drums staat garant voor ritmisch vuurwerk. De avond wordt geopend door Going’s Pak Yan Lau, die in muzikale dialoog gaat met het GAME ensemble.
One of the most idiosyncratic bands in the southern hemisphere, The Necks, is coming to Ghent. The Australian trio has spent eighteen albums working on its unique sound. Their long, deceptively simple songs have always been their trademark, but on their latest album, Chris Abrahams (piano), Tony Buck (drums) and Lloyd Swanton (bass) seem to have suspended time completely. The mesmerising atmosphere they create is weightless and timeless.
Add to that the Brussels trio Going (João Lobo, Giovanni Di Domenico and Pak Yan Lau), as well as Japanese drummer Tatsuhisa Yamamoto, and the result is a heady mix. The occasional quartet with double drums guarantees rhythmic fireworks. Pak Yan Lau from Going will open the evening by engaging in a musical dialogue with the GAME ensemble.
