publieksfavoriet. De bijnaam ‘Gypsy’ dankt het aan de Hongaarse slag van het slotdeel. Ook Brahms was een liefhebber van volksmuziek (en van Haydn trouwens). In het slotdeel van zijn eerste pianotrio herken je zowaar The Star-Spangled Banner. Toeval of een anachronistische eresaluut aan onze eigenste Dirk Brossé, een componist wiens faam en werkzaamheden moeiteloos tot in the states reiken.

The concert starts darkly with ‘Notturno ed allegro’ by French composer Nicolas Bacri. Hayd’s thirty-ninth trio is an absolute audience favourite. The nickname ‘Gypsy’ refers to the Hungarian stroke of the final part. Brahms was a lover of folk music (as was Haydn). In the closing movement of his first piano trio, we even recognize ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’. Is this a coincidence, or an anachronistic tribute to our own Dirk Brossé, a composer whose fame and work effortlessly reaches over to The States?
