Op sommige composities lijkt tijd geen vat te hebben. Dat geldt zeker ook voor de zes Suites voor Cello solo van J.S. Bach. Geschreven in het eerste kwart van de achttiende eeuw hebben ze nu, 300 jaar later, nog niets aan charme ingeboet.
Herontdekt door Pablo Casals in de vroege 20ste eeuw, behoren de Suites tegenwoordig tot het standaard cellorepertoire. Rising Star (European Concert Hall Organisation) en Young Artist of the Year (International Classical Music Awards 2025) Benjamin Kruithof laat er zijn frisse interpretatie op los. Dit Luxemburgse cellotalent speelt zich letterlijk in de schijnwerpers als solist en in diverse kamermuziekbezettingen. In 2022 won hij de 1ste prijs op de George Enescu International Competition. In 2025 maakt hij een tour langs Europa’s mooiste zalen, met vanavond onze prachtige MIRY als tussenstop.
Some compositions seem timeless. This is certainly true of J.S. Bach’s six Suites for Solo Cello. Written in the first quarter of the 18th century, they have lost none of their charm 300 years later.
Rediscovered by Pablo Casals in the early 20th century, the Suites are now part of the standard cello repertoire. Rising Star (European Concert Hall Organisation) and Young Artist of the Year (International Classical Music Awards 2025) Benjamin Kruithof brings his fresh interpretation to the piece. This Luxembourg cello talent has literally played his way into the spotlight as a soloist and in various chamber music ensembles. In 2022, he won first prize at the George Enescu International Competition. In 2025, he will tour Europe’s most beautiful concert halls, with our beautiful MIRY as a stopover tonight.
