Met onderhand vijftien jaar touren op te teller staat het exuberante ensemble VOCES8 bij collega’s en pers bekend als ‘de Rolls-Royce van het Britse a cappella zingen’. Flexibiliteit en diversiteit staan daarbij centraal. Getuige daarvan hun programma. Eerbiedwaardige namen van de Britse traditie zoals Byrd, Weelkes en Britten staan broederlijk naast Tin-Pan-Alley-adepten à la Irving en Kern. Europese klassiekers zoals Rachmaninov en Sibelius delen dan weer het voetlicht met Van Morrison en Kate Rusby. Kortom: een zoetgevooisd minikoor met oog- noch oorkleppen, in wiens nabijheid geen mens zich ooit verveeld heeft.
With fifteen years of touring under their belts, the exuberant VOCES8 ensemble is known to colleagues and the press as ‘the Rolls-Royce of British a cappella singing’. Flexibility and diversity are crucial, as we see in their programme. The venerable names of British tradition, such as Byrd, Weelkes and Britten, stand side by side with Tin Pan Alley adepts à la Irving and Kern, while European classics, including Rachmaninov and Sibelius, share the spotlight with Van Morrison and Kate Rusby. This is a sweet-voiced small choir with no blinders or ear flaps and in whose presence no human has ever felt a tinge of boredom.
