Accordeon werd Vincent van Amsterdam met de paplepel ingegeven. Een dertigtal jaar later geldt de Nederlander als een onvermoeibaar pleitbezorger voor het instrument en zijn veelzijdige repertoire. Het verschil tussen de ietwat nostalgische suites van Vladislav Solotarjov en Edward Grieg enerzijds, en het chtonische clustergeweld van Sofia Goebaidoelina’s De Profundis anderzijds, kan dan ook amper groter zijn. Dat een vleugje Bach op accordeon niet misstaat, weten we sinds de passages van Philippe Thuriot in MIRY natuurlijk al langer. Uit de eigen land brengt van Amsterdam ten slotte componisten Daan Manneke en Bianca Bongers mee, al getuigt de spreidstand tussen beide klankidiomen eens te meer van het enorme bereik van dit bijzondere instrument.
Vincent van Amsterdam seems to have been born holding an accordion. Some thirty years later, the Dutchman is a tireless advocate of the instrument and its varied repertoire. The difference between the somewhat nostalgic suites by Vladislav Solotarjov and Edward Grieg on the one hand, and the chthonic cluster violence of Sofia Gubaidoelina’s ‘De Profundis’ on the other could hardly be greater. That a touch of Bach on accordion is not out of place is something we have of course known at the MIRY, ever since Philippe Thuriot first performed here. Finally, from his home country, Van Amsterdam brings along composers Daan Manneke and Bianca Bongers, and the range between the two sound idioms once again testifies to the enormous diversity of this exceptional instrument.
