Als voormalig gitarist van de beruchte jaren ’90 groep Harry Pussy staat Bill Orcutt bekend om zijn stotterende heruitvoering van de bluesgitaar. Daarbij verweeft hij looping, melodische lijnen en hoekige aanvallen in een dicht, gespleten landschap van Amerikaans primitivisme, outsider jazz en uitgeklede herbezinning op de mogelijkheden van de gitaar. Zijn nieuwste project: een all-star elektrisch gitaarkwartet met Wendy Eisenberg, Ava Mendoza en Shane Parish. Samen voeren ze de muziek uit van Orcutt’s ‘Music for Four Guitars’ LP uit 2022. Het album is beschreven door Pitchfork als ‘expansieve tapijten van kleine ritmische frasen, gebaseerd op vroege minimalisme en New Yorkse gitaargroepen zoals Glenn Branca Ensemble.’
De Gentse violist-componist Elisabeth Klinck heeft een achtergrond in de klassieke muziek en maakt experimentele elektro-akoestische muziek. Denk: hypnotiserend, vrije improvisatie, field recordings. In april 2023 kwam haar debuutplaat ‘Picture a Frame’ uit op het label Hallow Ground (waar ook Kali Malone actief op is). Het album komt na een lange periode van afzondering en is het resultaat van een samenwerkingsproces met kunstenaar Oscar Claus. ‘Picture a Frame’ is een intieme plaat, waarin het expressieve spel en de onconventionele technieken van Klinck de basis vormen.
The legendary guitarist and composer Bill Orcutt presents his latest project: an all-star electric guitar quartet with Wendy Eisenberg, Ava Mendoza, and Shane Parish. Together they perform the music from Orcutt’s “Music for Four Guitars” LP from 2022. The album has been described by Pitchfork as “expansive carpets of small rhythmic phrases, based on early minimalism and New York guitar groups like Glenn Branca Ensemble.”
Ghent violinist/composer Elisabeth Klinck has a background in classical music and makes experimental electroacoustic music. Think: hypnotic, free improvisation, field recordings. In recent years she has worked with the likes of Miet Warlop, Sarah Davachi, Ben Bertrand and Benjamin Abel Meirhaeghe. In April 2023, her debut album, “Picture a Frame,” was released on the Hallow Ground label (on which Kali Malone is also signed). The album comes after a long period of seclusion and is the result of a collaborative process with artist Oscar Claus. ‘Picture a Frame’ is an intimate record in which Klinck’s expressive playing and unconventional techniques are the foundation.
