Mixing classical and contemporary sound, Swiss composer Mario Batkovic seeks to explore the sonic possibilities of his instruments, without effects or loops, rather through a mutualistic symbiotic relationship between man and instrument.

Challenging, hypnotic and grandiose; Batkovic’s symphonic vision is unique and he has received widespread critical acclaim, including Rolling Stone magazine who voted his self-titled debut album in the Top 10 ‘Best Avant Albums of 2017’.

Mario Batkovic released his new album ‘INTROSPECTIO’ in December 2021 via Invada Records to widespread critical acclaim.

Featuring collaborations with electronic sorcerer James Holden and former BEAK> member Matthew Williams aka MXLX, in addition to drummer Clive Deamer (Radiohead/Portishead/Robert Plant/Roni Size), saxophonist Colin Stetson and concert choir Cantus Domus, Batkovic takes the listener on a journey through infinite universes of sound.

Rolling Stone: “Batkovic is a minimalist, culling mesmerizing melodies and sounds”

Mojo: “Swiss lightning-conductor drags humble accordion screaming into futurity”

The Quietus: “Finds an immense strength in nothing but his one instrument”

Crac: “A musician who specialises in intense, otherworldly compositions”

Louder Than War: “Reminds me of why I fell in love with music in the first place”

BEN BERTRAND

Ben Bertrand is a Belgian bass clarinet player and composer who hijacks his instrument by using loops and effects pedals. The artist thus transforms the sounds of the clarinet into electronic sounds, and creates a hypnotic musical journey. A synthesis of very diverse influences, Ben Bertrand’s universe is based on traditional and ancestral music, American minimalists such as Steve Reich and Terry Riley, and current electronic music. The composer skillfully manages to bridge the gap between extreme modernity and references to the past.

With his previous works – ‘Era/Area’ (2017), ‘Off-Record’ (2017), ‘NGC 1999’ (2018) and ‘Manes’ (2020) – Ben has toured mainly in Belgium, France and the Netherlands (Ancienne Belgique, Festival Présences électronique, BRDCST Festival, Schiev Festival, Le Guess Who?). His latest album ‘Dokkaebi’ was released on 1 October 2021.
