Pianist en musicoloog Ralph van Raat studeerde piano aan het Conservatorium van Amsterdam Van Raat behaalde ongeveer evenveel prijzen als er toetsen op een piano staan. Als solist trad hij op tijdens belangrijke festivals zoals het symfonische openingsconcert van het Gergiev Festival, de BBC Proms, het Holland Festival, het Time of Music festival in Viitasaari, Finland en het zomerfestival van Tanglewood (USA). Op zijn programma twee titanen van de twintigste-eeuwse kunstmuziek. Prélude, toccata et scherzo van Pierre Boulez is een vroeg en nooit eerder opgenomen werk, waarin nog niet zijn seriële gestrengheid doorklinkt maar de componist alvast het palet aftast. Een introductie heeft Le Sacre du Printemps van Igor Stravinski daarentegen niet nodig. Dit pivotale orkestwerk krijgt op het klavier desalniettemin een geheel nieuwe sonoriteit mee.
Pianist and musicologist Ralph van Raat studied piano at the Amsterdam Conservatory. Van Raat has won about as many awards as there are keys on a piano. As a soloist he performed at important festivals, such as the symphonic opening concert of the Gergiev Festival, the BBC Proms, the Holland Festival, the Time of Music festival in Viitasaari, Finland and the summer festival of Tanglewood (USA). His programme includes two titans of twentieth-century art music. Prelude, toccata et scherzo by Pierre Boulez is an early and never before recorded work, in which his serial rigour does not yet resound but the composer already explores the palette. Igor Stravinsky’s Le Sacre du Printemps, on the other hand, needs no introduction. This pivotal orchestral work nevertheless acquires a completely new sonority on the keyboard.
