Pianist Jano Wijnants vond voor dit concert inspiratie in het klassieke heldenepos. Geen flitsende superheldtoestanden uit het Marvel-universum, maar een dolende held op zoek naar zichzelf. Die zoektocht leidt hem langs bekend en minder bekend werk uit het pianorepertoire. Net als in het betere epopee is ook deze reis er een vol verrassing en avontuur: grootmeester Bach klinkt naast de post-minimalistische mijmeringen van de 20ste eeuwse Duckworth en in Schuberts Erlkönig zit de dood ons op de hielen.
For this concert, pianist Jano Wijnants drew inspiration from the classical heroic epic. Not the flashy superhero antics of the Marvel universe, but a wandering hero in search of himself. That quest takes him through familiar and lesser-known works from the piano repertoire. Just as in the finest epics, this journey is one full of surprises and adventure: the great master Bach is heard alongside the post-minimalist musings of the 20th-century composer Duckworth, and in Schubert’s Erlkönig, death is hot on our heels.
