Met reeds vijfendertig jaar op de teller mag het Vlaams barokensemble Il Gardellino zichzelf onderhand het epitheton ‘historisch’ toe-eigenen. Van sleet is echter nog geen sprake. Talrijker en met meer gusto dan ooit trappen ze deze adventsperiode af met een hen op het lijf geschreven programma. Of het nu gaat om een jubelende cantate van J.S. Bach, een vertwijfelde aria van Händel, tafelmuziek van Telemann of het bekendste hobo-concerto aller tijden, dat van Alessandro Marcello, het klinkt allemaal alsof het gisteren werd geschreven. Neen, aangenamer kan een mens de dagen tot Kerst niet verbeiden.
With thirty-five years of experience, the Flemish baroque ensemble Il Gardellino may by now claim the epithet “historical” for itself. There is however no sign of wear and tear. More numerous and with more gusto than ever, they are kicking off this Advent season with a program that seems tailor-made. Whether it is a jubilant cantata by J.S. Bach, a despairing aria by Handel, table music by Telemann or the most famous oboe concerto of all time, that by Alessandro Marcello, it all sounds as if it was written yesterday. Nay, one could not count down the days till Christmas more pleasantly.
