Sabine Meyer is één van de meest gerenommeerde instrumentale solisten ter wereld. Het is mede aan haar te danken dat de klarinet, een eerder onderschat solo-instrument, de aandacht van het concertpodium wist te trekken. Ze werd geboren in Crailsheim, studeerde bij Otto Hermann in Stuttgart en Hans Deinzer in Hannover, begon vervolgens aan een carrière als orkestmuzikant en werd lid van het ‘Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks’. Daarna werd ze soloklarinettiste bij de ‘Berliner Philharmoniker’, die ze echter opgaf, omdat ze steeds meer gevraagd werd als soliste. Gedurende bijna een kwarteeuw brachten talrijke concerten haar naar alle muziekcentra van Europa, maar ook naar Brazilië, Israël, Canada, Afrika en Australië, en twintig jaar lang even regelmatig naar Japan en de VS.
Sabine Meyer is een veelgeprezen internationale soliste. Ze gaf concerten met alle toporkesten in Duitsland maar ook met wereldberoemde orkesten zoals de ‘Wiener Philharmoniker’, het ‘Chicago Symphony Orchestra’, het ‘London Philharmonic Orchestra’, het ‘NHK Symphony Orchestra Tokyo’, het ‘Orchestra of Suisse Romande’, de ‘Berliner Philharmoniker’, de radio-orkesten van Wenen, Bazel, Warschau, Praag en Boedapest, evenals tal van andere ensembles.
Het Desguin Quartet is een jong ambitieus kwartet uit België dat bekend staat om zijn veelzijdigheid en vaak interdisciplinair te werk gaat. ‘Desguin’ verwijst naar de ‘Desguinlei’ in Antwerpen, waar de leden van het kwartet elkaar op het conservatorium ontmoetten. Het kwartet werd geselecteerd voor het Orpheus Instituut voor kamermuziek in Gent en is lid van de prestigieuze Pro Quartet Academy in Parijs. Ze speelden live op radiozenders als Klara en Musiq’3, traden op in bijna alle Belgische concertzalen en deelden het podium met gerenommeerde artiesten zoals Werner Van Mechelen, het Tsjechische Zemlinsky Quartet, pianist Florestan Bataillie en acteurs Stefaan Degand, Ariane Van Vliet en Vic De Wachter. Als Belgisch kwartet werken ze regelmatig samen met hedendaagse Belgische componisten en creëerden ze werken van Luc Van Hove, Alain Craens, Steven Prengels en Mathias Coppens, die een werk aan hen opdroeg. Ze werden in 2018 Artist in Residence van vzw SWUK Vlaanderen en wonnen de Supernova Classics competitie in 2020, waarbij ze ook de publieksprijs kregen.
In 2022 waren ze te gast tijdens de Belgian Music Days in Eupen en ontvingen ze de prestigieuze Fuga Trofee uitgereikt door de ‘Union of Belgian Composers’.
Sabine Meyer is one of the world’s most renowned instrumental soloists. It is partly thanks to her that the clarinet, a previously underrated solo instrument, managed to attract the attention of the stage. Born in Crailsheim, she studied with Otto Hermann in Stuttgart and Hans Deinzer in Hanover, then embarked on a career as an orchestral musician, becoming a member of the ‘Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks’. The Desguin Quartet is a young ambitious quartet from Belgium known for its versatility and often interdisciplinary approach. ‘Desguin’ refers to the ‘Desguinlei’ in Antwerp, where the members of the quartet met at the conservatory.
