In zijn jonge jaren grossierde deze dichter immers vooral in gevoelige versjes en dat bleek de ideale grondstof voor een liedrepertoire dat velen onder ons nog steeds erg na aan het hart ligt. Keuze te over dus voor bas-bariton Werner Van Mechelen en pianiste Sylvie Decramer. Grote namen als Schubert, Mendelssohn, Schumann krijgen het gezelschap van de veelzijdige Clara Schumann, née Clara Wieck.

If today the statue of Jacob van Artevelde still points towards the sheep of England, it would not be out of place for the busts of German composers from the early Romantic period to nod towards the birthplace of Heinrich Heine. After all, in his younger years, this poet mainly dealt in sensitive verses, which turned out to be the ideal raw material for a song repertoire that is still very dear to many of us.
