William Basinski – legendarisch Amerikaans muzikant en componist van beroep – verlegt al meer dan 30 jaar de creatieve grenzen van zijn klassieke opleiding met experimentele media. Hij gebruikt daarbij verouderde technologie en analoge tapeloops, waarmee hij betoverende en melancholische soundscapes weeft. Zijn favoriete onderwerpen: de vluchtigheid van het leven, het geheugen en het mysterie van de tijd.
Zijn magnum opus – het epische 4-disc meesterwerk ‘The Disintegration Loops’ – werd overladen met lof op internationaal niveau. Pitchfork plaatste in 2004 tussen de top albums van het jaar en prees de heruitgave in 2012 met een zeldzame perfecte score van 10.
Basinski maakte ook furore met installaties en films in samenwerking met kunstenaar-filmmaker James Elaine, maakte de muziek voor de opera ‘The Life and Death of Marina Abramovic’ en toert momenteel de wereld rond met zijn nieuwste werk ‘On Time Out of Time’ onder de arm.
Lukas De Clerck is muzikant en geluidskunstenaar en woont in Brussel. Hij is gepassioneerd door de Aulos, een oude Grieks-Romeinse dubbele pijp met rieten die grofweg een millennium geleden in onbruik raakte.
Na enkele jaren van diepgravend onderzoek naar het maken van Aulos-rieten en het bespelen van replica’s van oude instrumenten, deelt hij nu zijn autodidactische werk op een podium. Vanuit het verlangen om het instrument te ontdoen van zijn raadselachtige verleden, creëerde De Clerck een nieuwe, hedendaagse Aulos: De Telescopische Aulos van Atlas…

Lukas De Clerck is a musician and sound artist living in Brussels. He is passionate about the Aulos, an ancient Greco-Roman double reed pipe that fell into disuse roughly a millennium ago.
After several years of in-depth research into making Aulos reeds and playing replicas of ancient instruments, he now shares his self-taught work on a stage. Out of a desire to rid the instrument of its enigmatic past, De Clerck created a new, contemporary Aulos: The Telescopic Aulos of Atlas….
